Mercado Global is a non-profit organization that promotes community driven development
by linking Guatemalan women’s cooperatives to the U.S. market through a model of
fair wage employment. Mercado provides assistance to the one-of–a-kind jewelry and
accessory artisans in the areas of design, product development, technical training,
financial planning, and organizational management. 100% of profits return to their
partner cooperatives to promote both fair wage employment and investments in their
children’s education. Today the employment and support given by this organization
has made it possible for over 200 women cooperative members to provide basic necessities
such as nutritious meals for their families and schooling for their children.
